I have the BEST visiting teachers! Joy dropped by on her way out of town to leave me this little "conference gift." The tag reads," Just POPPING (popcorn) by to wish you a meaningful conference weekend. Sit back, relax and SOAK (lotion) it all in. Hope you learn something EXTRA (gum) and take NOTE (notepad and pencil) when you feel the spirit. Enjoy!" It's not too late to steal the idea for your own sisters...

We heard today from Laura that her grandson, Josh Bacon, has fallen victim to swine flu. He is the first person with whom I am actually acquainted to become thus afflicted. We wish Josh all the best and know he is in good hands.
Aubrey made a very successful appearance at the county fair. This was her first time showing her horse, Beau and she won two ribbons--a fifth place for something horsey that I can't remember and a third place for western pleasure riding. She was competing against a whole stable full of talented 4Hers, so we are very proud! Finally, Carl reports a strange (and inappropriate) fair occurrence. He, Heather and the three kids were in the commercial building when someone from the County Health Department started passing out free pencils to the kids. It wasn't until Spencer (age 6) read the slogan which was printed on the pencils that they realized what was being promoted--"Chlamydia...it's not a flower." If you don't know, ask Spencer.

Wow...only at the Kern County Fair do you get STD pencils. How fun? How Informative?
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of Aubrey and she looks very cute in her uniform!
Sad to hear about Josh...that must be scary- he will definitely be in our prayers.
And I agree that the handout is adorable- it almost motivates me to do my visiting teaching...almost.
What a cute VT you have. I really enjoyed conference today and I'm looking forward to tommorow.
ReplyDeleteSwine Flu is all over here too. Two kids at Abby's school have it We'll remember Josh in our prayers.
Tell Aubrey congratulations. She looks so cute!
STD pencils at the fair...they must be trying to reach a certain demographic maybe they should hang out on the midway.
Congrats to Aubrey! Not one ribbon, but two!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm naive, but it could be that the health dept passed out the pencils because the Chlamydia Bacteria also infects livestock. It can be spread by flies!
If goats and sheep are not inoculated, that bacteria can spread to a whole herd in a matter of days. It is a big deal when raising goats because it almost always causes pregnant does to abort their kids. It is a leading cause of blindness in goats, too. :-(
Way to go Aubrey. Or as Uncle Sean likes to say good jobrey. Im not typically one to panic over health scares but I am a little freaked out to be having a baby at the height of the Swine Flu outbreak! Maybe we will order in this time instead of going to Red Lobster the day we get home from the hospital.
