I am starting a new feature on my blog to give me a wider audience for my many opinions. I will be sharing my recommendations for books, movies, web sites, products, and recipes. In return, I will ask you to leave your recommendations in your comments. For today's pick, I begin with a question. How did generations of humans survive without obsessing over package labels? I used to scoff at such things, but have become a convert. Without going into all the boring medical details, let me just say that what you eat actually DOES have an effect on your health. Who knew????
When Bill is out of town I sometimes experiment with quick and healthy foods. (Not that he doesn't enjoy healthy foods. I just don't experiment on him.) Here is my recommendation for a low-fat, low-carb sandwich.
I believe the recipe is self-explanatory:
The subject is sandwiches. What are YOUR picks?

I love the English cukes- so much better. My favorite sandwich is peanut butter and jelly. But right now, since I am attempting to lose a little baby weight, I don't eat sandwiches. Mostly because sammies need chips. Chips need soda. A vicious cycle.
ReplyDeleteEver heard of the book "You Are What You Eat" by Gillian McKeith? There is a website, too. You might be interested.
I too love the Double Fiber bread. I've recently discovered the "Cascadian Farms" organic strawberry jam and it is the best strawberry jam ever. I didn't necessarily buy it because it was organic. It was in a two-pack at Costco and it was a good price so I gave it a try. I am sold. It tastes like real, fresh, homemade strawberry jam.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try the cheddar and cucumber sandwich. I'm a fan of both.
This reminds me of when Eric and I were driving through the middle of nowhere Minnesota once and the only thing we could get on the radio was local public access and they were airing a show called, "Sandwich Hour". Riveting!
I like sliced, Pepperocini peppers on almost any sandwich!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever eaten radish sandwiches???
This is Rhonda. Harry just called from Cosco and asked if I could think of anything else we needed and I said, "Yes, some Cascadian Farms Organic Strawbery Jam".
ReplyDelete(Thanks, Emily!)
We love cucumber sandwiches, too, but our favorite is this: put some Great Harvest Bread in the toaster. While it is toasting, go out to the garden in July or August and pull a warm tomato off the vine. Slather the toast with mayo and your sliced tomato and LOTS of salt and pepper. We have this for dinner alot in the summer.
Hope you have a happy Mother's Day tomorrow.
Just had a MBP at Jason's Deli. It was invented by one of their sandwich artisans (from Austin). It had organic stone ground mustard, sauteed onions and red bell peppers, jalapeƱo-pepper jack, roast beef, and grilled organic whole wheat ciabatta.... plus greasy inorganic pringles. I likey.
ReplyDeleteWow you're gone a couple of days and come home to a whole sandwich conversation that you had no idea was going on. My only sammie tip is that I love to use LOTS of spinach (like 3/4 spinach and 1/4 meat and cheese). I feel really good about myself because according to my spinach bag it is a "super food". I also enjoy the flavor and nice crunch to any lean lunch meat sandwich.
ReplyDeletePadma look out here comes Linda Reed. I do believe I introduced you to the english cucumber.
ReplyDeleteWe love our panini press you got us and use it all the time for sandwiches!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Padma and I do have matching scars on our arm.
